Kafaah adalah merupakan satu kaedah yang dianjurkan oleh Islam sebagai pertimbangan untuk mendapatkan pasangan hidup yang berkualiti dari apek jasmani, rohani dan material. Pemilihan pasangan yang seimbang dari aspek agama dan sosial mampu menjaga kemaslahatan dalam membina rumah tangga yang sejahtera. Perbezaan yang begitu ketara antara pasangan boleh menjadi punca atau pencetus kepada konflik rumah tangga apabila perbezaan tersebut menyukarkan suami isteri mencari titik kesepakatan dalam menyelesaikan sesuatu masalah. Justeru kertas kerja ini bertujuan untuk melihat kesan perbezaan sosial terhadap kesejahteraan keluarga dengan memfokuskan kepada empat kriteria kafaah iaitu agama, pendidikan, ekonomi dan usia. Pendekatan kualitatif digunakan dengan mengumpul dan menganalisis kajian terdahulu yang membincangkan tentang kesan-kesan ketiadaan unsur keseimbangan antara pasangan. Hasil kajian mendapati walaupun isu kafaah tidak tersenarai dalam faktor-faktor berlakunya perceraian secara zahir, namun kafaah boleh menjadi penyebab secara tidak langsung kepada berlakunya konflik rumah tangga akibat wujudnya jurang perbezaan yang banyak di antara suami dan isteri dalam pelbagai aspek.
