Abstract

Halal matchmaking refers to the process of facilitating marriages in a manner that aligns with Islamic principles, ensuring that gender interactions and relationships formed are permissible under Islamic law. The purpose of this paper is to explain and define the concept of halal matchmaking services for Muslim marriage from fatwa perspective. The research employed library and online research methods, using the web for research and publication. It explored independent scholarly sites (journals) and general websites including official fatwa websites, applying Boolean Search Model to process on the basis of logical product (AND logic). The research found that there are five conditions for matchmaking to be halal. 1) halal spouse, 2) intention for marriage, 3) personally identifiable information kept confidential, 4) meeting is attended by a chaperone (wali, maharam or matchmaker) or in public place to prevent zina, khalwat and ikhtilat, and 5) moral conduct with respect and honesty. It was also found that halal matchmaking means a synonym of arraigning ta’aruf (introduction to know each other) opportunities for Muslim marriage.
